Werebear

If one is going to play a Russian unit in The Silver Bayonet, then a Skinshifter/Werebear must be used, it is the signature model for the faction.

I originally bought this 3D printed model for use in Ragnarok, before I had even played The Silver Bayonet, so as it turns out, it fits the role of Werebear in both games.

This model came from Inspire Miniatures on Etsy, the quality of the print is excellent and it painted up very well. Inspire Miniatures have plenty of really nice fantasy models currently on their store page, I can see myself being tempted with some more.

I have a viking warrior for the Werebear in human form, but I need to find some sort of burly looking chap that will better fit the period in The Silver Bayonet, I am thinking one of my pirate models may do the job.

Russians For Silver Bayonet

After a very quick refresh, a few old Warmachine Khador figures are now Russian unit for The Silver Bayonet. I don’t think this counts as painting models as they were already “base coated”.

I decided to leave the Khador symbol on the models, the objective was to touch them up a lot rather than need to spend loads of time of them.

First there is the unit Captain, using the Irusk model. This is only model I left any red on.

Next there were a few infantry models, the old Khador Widowmakers. I painted over any existing red, touched up the weapon a bit and called them done.

FInally there were some Greylords which have been repurposed. Initially, I have been using a couple as Sappers, but I will ultimately use just one as a Champion Of Faith as he is in the appropriate pose.

I have ordered a few models off eBay that will allow me to finish restructuring the Russian unit with models that better fit the descriptions of the model types.

Updating Russians For Silver Bayonet

One of the neglected boxes of old models in The Loft Full Of Lead is a collection of Khador figures. Not very many, we only ever played very small games of Warmachine back in First Edition, which was 2003 I think…

As there is a Russian faction in The Silver Bayonet, I am touching up a few old models. Irusk as the Officer, Sorscha as the miracle caster and a few infantryman and sappers. I don’t think I can get away with fielding a Warjack…

Oak Oppression Chapter 2

The final Silver Bayonet mission of the day was Chapter 2 in The Oak Oppression saga. The investigators had discovered the reasons behind the forest dilemna…

There is trouble in the forest and the creatures all have fled. After researching the Witches Spell Book, you have discovered that arcane spells have caused the trees to become enchanted. They have uprooted and driven out the local loggers and huntsmen. To break the spell and restore order to the forest, the investigators must track down and destroy the focal point of the enchantment, the Forest Ent.

This mission was played deep in a forest, with a destroyed loggers cottage in the middle. In the middle of the ruins stands a mysterious tree.

All around are Forest Dryads and each turn more would appear.

The investigator units knew they were heading into a forest to deal with a Forest Ent, so they went well prepared with Oil and Torches.

The soldiers needed to spend an action to light their torches, which, once alight, would be very effective against their wooden opponents!

Some of the soldiers had also acquired Enchanted Weapons with +1 damage in the previous mission, which would prove effective against the Ent and the Dryads.

Once any of the soldiers had moved to within 8″ of the mysterious tree in the middle of the cottage, it transformed into the Ent and the soldiers moved to attack!

Several battles took place around the forest, but the Enchanted Weapons and Fire attacks of the investigators took their toll on their opponents.

Several soldiers charged the Ent and under a flurry of attacks, it was defeated.

With the Ent destroyed, the magic is broken and all the Dryads become normal static trees. Victory for the good guys!

The games posted here over the last few days were my first attempts at writing scenarios for The Silver Bayonet, I have a few more ideas, so expect soem more in the coming months. There may well be Vampires, Ghouls, Pirates and Mummies turning up in various mini campaigns.

Oak Oppression Chapter 1

In our next pair of linked Silver Bayonet games, we had games that were headed to the forest.

The great forest of Roden usually produces vast quantities of timber for the carpenters of the entire province. In recent weeks, the supply has dwindled to a trickle and finally ceased altogether. The mission is to investigate a nearby village and find out the reasons behind the mystery.

The first game required our three units to investigate clues in a small hamlet. There were a few henchmen guarding the houses, recruited by a Forest Witch. Once the Henchmen had been dealt with, the Forest Witch attacked the investigators, but was not able to withstand the multiple attacks that came back at her.

The mission was over quite quickly, a spell book was recovered and the units knew where they needed to go next…

Bedford Tabletop Expo

Over this last weekend, I paid a visit to the Bedford Tabletop Expo, a small show, but as it turned out, well worth the trip.

I had arranged to have a chat with a few 3D printing outfits as I have a number of models that I want to get printed this year. The quality of the 3D printed models on show was amazing and I will be getting some stuff done soon.

There were a few nice displays, such as a rather nice Lord Of The Rings battle for Osgiliath landing diorama.

There was also a very large Aliens inspired spaceship, scratch built by Paul Copeland from foamcard and plastic, it must have been 10 feet long!

This was the first time I have been to this show, it does appear to have grown over the last couple of years. With a bit of luck, even more traders and games will start to attend in the future. I would not mind having a show close to where I live!

Silver Bayonet Incursion Chapter 2

The second chapter in the Incursion scenario had the plucky bands of Silver Bayonet Investigators moving to deal with the summoning of a Demonic Champion and his minions at the nearby church.

After the first game, the three of us decided to concentrate on the mission objective and investigating clues rather than shoot at each other! Very sensible if you ask me.

The random events on the outside the church had Living Armour and an Ogre popping up for the units to deal with.

Once inside the church, it got pretty crowded and as the clues were investigated, more Demonic Minions and finally the Demonic Champion appeared.

The Demonic Champion was quite a dangerous opponent, its Soul Shear ability caused some impact on the investigating units, but with enough attacks, the Demonic Champion was defeated and the mission completed.

Silver Bayonet Incursion Chapter 1

At the weekend, we had a Silver Bayonet scenario day, so there will be a few posts on the games in the coming days.

I had written two linked scenarios, hopefully to take into account the fact that there would be three of us playing.
The first game was called “Incursion”, the objective being to investigate a cult, take out the cult leader and find out what all the culting was about!

The cult was located in a central large building and our three units had to get inside to investigate the clues and fight the cultists.

The problem was of course that we also had to confront each other, the result? Carnage!

There were a few cultists in the town, but these did not cause too much damage, we just inflicted loads of damage on each other.

Once all of the units made it into the ground floor of the cultist building, the carnage continued.

By the time we made it up to the first floor where the Cultist Champion was located, some serious damage had been done to all of our units, mostly inflicted by each other…

Luckily, the Cultist Champion was defeated quite quickly and we were able to move on to Chapter Two of The Incursion…

Rebasing Flagellants…Again

These nutters have been up in the Loft Full Of Lead for a few decades. With our current games of The Silver Bayonet needing some Cultists, I thought I would repurpose them. Years ago they were on square bases but many years later I rebased them onto (Warmachine) display bases.

So now I have rebased them again, for the last time, onto 25mm round bases. They also got an ink wash and they look much better.

Planning ahead, as I have ten of these, I can use them as a unit of something in Oathmark.
